Financial Support

The Government of British Columbia provides two financial support programs available to Cambridge Montessori families: the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative and the Affordable Child Care Benefit (subsidy program).

Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative

The Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI) enhances childcare affordability by offering funding to eligible, licensed childcare providers to reduce and stabilize parents’ monthly childcare fees.  Since Cambridge Montessori has been approved to receive funding, our parents/guardians do not need to apply.

Affordable Child Care Benefit

The Affordable Child Care Benefit is a monthly payment to help eligible families with the cost of child care. Factors like income, family size, and type of care determine how much support families can get. Families need to renew their application AT LEAST ONE CALENDAR MONTH before the benefit period ends. The end date can be viewed in your MyFS (My Family Services) account.

Do I Qualify?

Specific criteria are used to check if a family qualifies for the Affordable Child Care Benefit.

A parent or guardian must be:

  • A resident of B.C. (you must have a current B.C. address)
  • A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, a Convention refugee or a person in need of protection

All child care services at Cambridge Montessori are eligible.

Parents must provide one of the following reasons for requiring child care:

  • Working or self-employed
  • Attending school
  • Participating in an employment program
  • Looking for work (only one parent or guardian)
  • Living with a medical condition that interferes with your ability to care for your child
  • Your child is attending a licensed preschool.
  • You have been referred by a Ministry of Children and Family Development or Delegated Aboriginal Agency, social worker.

A formula calculates whether a family qualifies for a funding amount based on their annual income, deductions, or adjustments. This step is called income testing.

Generally speaking, families that earn up to $111,000 may qualify for funding. Families that earn more than $111,000, but have considerable deductions for family size or children with special needs, can also apply.

  • Find out more about sharing your income information with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Families may be exempt from income testing if caring for someone else’s child under a Ministry of Children and Family Development placement.

To prevent having to pay the child care fee in full, it is highly recommended to submit your Application Form with Child Care Arrangement form AT LEAST ONE CALENDAR MONTH before your child's start date.

How is Funding Calculated?

The amount of funding available to families is based on the following factors.

The number of children living at home and whether or not any have a designated special need.

All child care services at Cambridge Montessori are eligible.

In some cases, the number of days per week that child care is needed is a factor in determining how much funding your family may receive. If you require less than 20 days of care per month, the amount of funding is prorated.

For most families, the level of funding is calculated based on the combined gross annual amount that a child's parents or guardians earn, fewer deductions for family size, and children with a designated special need. Income is calculated based on information from your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment or an income declaration form.

  • Learn about sharing your income information with the Ministry of Children & Family Development

Here's an example of the formula that uses income from your CRA Notice of Assessment:

  • Family's adjusted annual income = total gross income (line 15000) – social assistance payments (line 14500) – ($2000 x (number of family members – 2)) – ($3000 x number of children who have a designated special need)

This means, depending on the type of care used:

  • Families who earn approximately $0 to $45,000 (after adjustments are calculated) may qualify for total funding
  • Families that earn $45,000 to $111,000 (after adjustments are calculated) may qualify for partial funding
